Vintage Spiralled Calisthenics Clubs – 1970’s
Email to a friendDescription
This pair is very similar to what we swing with now, although as you can see, they’ve had a hard life! – look at all that chipped paint! This pair belonged to my sister. It shows her carelessness when swinging clubs. Obviously she didnt care for the skill or technique!
By the 1970’s all of the clubs have the spiral pattern . The sport has not yet embrased the ‘raw wood’ look..that came about in the 2000’s when we started covering the clubs with fabric to match costumes.
These are lightweight, 16″ clubs. All very similar to what we use today. The paint is better too than previous years, and you can see an undercoat was used.
Getting an exact matching weight was always difficult of course when using a natural fibre. This pair weighing : 111 & 127 grams. Wood: unknown
