Vintage Striped Calisthenics Clubs – 1960’s/1970’s
Email to a friendDescription
This pair is notably lighter than their predecessors.
Although, still using STRIPES (not spiralled) we suspect that this style was still being used in the early 1970’s- on the cusp of the spiralled clubs being introduced.
We suspect ‘spiralling’ was introduced as it would have been a quicker – one application way to add the striping effect to the clubs – rather than doing individual stripes – done one at a time.
These are 16″ clubs. A lighter weight wood has been used than earlier models…perhaps Balsa wood.
The balls are around the same size as we use today. The paint is covering more of the club than previous clubs made.
The top, or wider part of the club has a tapered appearance to it, similar to todays clubs. The base measures 2cms wide, similar to the ones we use today.
By this stage in history, the weight of each club is lighter and more accurate as an equal pair. This pair weighing just : 87 & 86.5 grams. Wood: unknown
